In episode ten, we discuss the concept of a flow state. There is an Italian psychologist who came up with the concept of flow state, which is when our skill level matches the difficulty of a task. We might find ourselves in a flow state if we have a very high skill level for a highly difficult task. The flow state occurs when our minds literally go, “into the zone.” If you have ever heard of a guy by the name of Larry Bird, he is a professional basketball player, long retired, but he talks about the game actually slowing down for him in high pressure situations. The reason for this happening to him is that he was so confident in a highly challenging environment, his mind would actually enjoy the experience and make him better at the same time.
Think about the last time you were doing something challenging that you are also very good at. Why did it feel so good to you? When you have a high ability in a highly difficult situation, you are in the flow state. Some of the happiest people in life can align their vocation with their flow state. So professionally, try to find a job that pays you well in something that you are very good at and is challenging for you. You might find yourself in a flow state, which is going to make work a lot more fun.
Go ahead and look it up. Find it on Google. Bottom line, look at it on the internet, and do a little research on your own. Get curious. It is a lot of fun. Find things that fit your flow state, they will be rewarding. Thanks for reading the BlankScreen blog. Check us out on YouTube. We will see you on the next episode.
